This page is meant to give a person a broad view of the process of a flag retirement ceremony by fire.

- Get permission to use Ceremony area
- Find places to be collection points for flags
- Begin publicity campaign to let public know about your flag collection program
- Write invitations to people you would like to participate in the ceremony
- Get permission to use necessary materials for ceremony (ie: tables, chairs, burn barrel, public announcement system or sound system)
- Invite appropriate musicians to participate in ceremony (a bugler works well)
- End flag collection and let media know about up and coming ceremony
- Preparation of flags for ceremony (if you have many small flags you want to precut them)
- Finishing getting other materials
- Carry out ceremony
- Dispose of Ashes
